Renowned for its early morning tuna auctions, it’s a seafood lover’s paradise. Here, I had the freshest sushi of my life—an unforgettable meal of sashimi and nigiri that captured the essence of authentic Japanese cuisine. The bustling market and its culinary treasures set the tone for a day of discovery.

From the vibrant energy of Tsukiji, we ventured into Tokyo’s serene side with a stop at Zojo-ji Temple and then to nearby Tokyo Tower. Ascending Tokyo Tower revealed panoramic views of the city. On a clear day, you can even spot Mount Fuji on the horizon, a gentle reminder of Japan’s natural beauty amidst its urban sprawl. The rooftop provided a moment to reflect, camera in hand, capturing both the endless cityscape and a few treasured snapshots to take home.

Tokyo’s urban experience was just as captivating. The streets were impeccably clean, with a fascinating emphasis on separating and managing trash. Where graffiti might mark train station walls in other cities I have been to, Tokyo’s remained untouched—a blank canvas reflecting the city’s order and respect for shared spaces. Riding the train was another revelation; the silence and restraint of passengers were striking, a sharp contrast to the noisy, vibrant energy of my hometown, New York City. It felt natural to lower my voice, blending into the rhythm of Tokyo’s collective harmony.

Adding to the adventure were vending machines that seemed to offer everything—meals, drinks, and more. Even dining etiquette came with its own cultural charm: slurping noodles, once discouraged in my household, was a celebrated sign of appreciation in Japan. My daughter took to it with glee, fully embracing this delicious tradition.
